About Me

I’m 38, married.  I live in CT.  We have no living children together but we had a son, Samuel.  He was born prematurely on January 2, 2004, and lived for an hour.  He is in my thoughts every day.

I enjoy trying new recipes and am always looking for something tasty to discover.   Cliff’s a picky eater (definitely a meat and potatoes-y old fashioned home cookin’ guy), so the times when I experiment with a new recipe and we both love it are truly a treat.

I’ve been doing organic vegetable gardening for about 10 or 11 years now.  For 6 years I’ve been growing my heirloom tomatoes from seed.  My favorite tomato is the German Red Strawberry, which seems to produce larger, more flavorful and meatier tomatoes every year.

We also grow peppers, greens (broccoli raab, swiss chard, mustard greens), potatoes, green beans, onions, radishes, cukes, and various herbs.   In the past we’ve grown garlic, various squashes, tomatillos & corn.  Wow, you’d think our garden was 2 acres instead of the 25 x 15 feet it actually is!

As far as TV, I love Survivor, Heroes, Lost, The Sopranos (except that last episode), Law & Order, the Simpsons, Saturday Night Live and many varied other shows when they catch my fancy.

I am a VERY new gardener. I AM coming by here often. Be prepared for LOTS of questions.

Yup, and I learn something new every single year. When we started our first garden at our last place our garden was literally the size of 2 parking spaces. Heirloom tomatoes are my ’specialty’. There is NOTHING like fresh tomato sauce from tomatoes straight from the garden, through the foodmill and in the pot. Good years, I freeze enough puree to make sauce through much of the winter. Although this year, we planted seeds late, and they’re just not cooperating (I keep yelling at them to GROW — but it’s not helping…stubborn things). Cliff is convinced they’ll catch up as soon as the first heat wave hits — due this week actually, so we’ll see!

I would like to see a continuation of the topic

    Hi Maximus!
If you click on the ‘Garden’ Category on the left column you’ll see some of the results of this past year’s garden. This year I plan on documenting the whole process from seed to sauce.
    Thanks for visiting!
